Day 142: Respect Abe

Day 141: Chasing Lincoln's Killer

I have some of the coolest and supportive coworkers in the world.  Either that, or they are enablers...I haven't quite decided.  A teacher from across the hall was kind enough to pass this along to me for my reading pleasure.

It was an interesting book.  It chronicles the massive manhunt that was in place after Lincoln's assassination.  The story is told from multiple first person perspectives, I found that both interesting and annoying.  With children's literature I find that I love it like crazy or I'll forget it in a week, there's no gray area.  I would recommend this to a fourth or fifth grader to get them engaged in history, but I can't see myself ever reading it again.

Day 140: Historically Abe

Wow, I didn't mean for my break to be this long!

Without even really realizing it, 31 days have slipped by me.  I'm horrible, I know.  In my defense I could tell you a sob story about how the life of a teacher/concert coordinator/data entry-ist is a life with many hardships.  One of the  main things I'm losing, besides my mind, is sleep.  I'm not sure when I do it, but whatever is happening isn't enough.

I plan to come back at you super hard to make-up for this time lost.  Don't you worry your pretty little head.  While I may have been lazy about posting my findings, I was still collecting.  Now it's the hard part of documenting them for you all to see.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the Nevada Historical Society to see an exhibit they are running about my boy, Abraham Lincoln.  The lady who runs the joint is amazing!  She's super informative, loves history, and loves people who love history.  One of the goodies that I came away with was this poster that she just gave me because it was damaged.  I laid it under some heavy books since then and tonight it was finally ready to go on the wall in the kitchen.  Damaged, shamaged looks just fine to me.

A nice addition to the kitchen!

Day 139: Garett's Abraham

Garett has to be my funniest friend.  I'm not sure if this is sacrilegious or hilarious, but it's amazing.  Garett's photoshopping skills are getting out of control.  In a good way, a very good way.

I think it was when he was home over spring break that we were chatting, and eventually the conversation turned to Lincoln as it inevitably will when you've made that mistake with me.  Somehow we got to talking about the biblical Abraham and what if it was Lincoln who was about to sacrifice Isaac.  I asked if he thought he could make that image happen. If you ask, you shall receive.

Day 138: Epic Abe

My friend Garett is going to be coming back home soon!

I'm so excited.  He's home from school this summer and I'm going to pester the hell out of one my best friends.  Actually, this Memorial Day weekend he is supposed to go work Punk Rock Bowling with me in Las Vegas.  It's going to be an insane weekend.

Garett surprised me this morning with this picture on my Facebook.  I've seen in floating around on the internet, but I was glad to have an opportunity to share it with those of you who don't scour the internet in your free time for all things Lincoln related.  It appears that this picture is of Abraham Lincoln riding a grizzly bear while having a machine gun in one hand and the Constitution in the other.  He's my kind of guy.
