Day 86: Hustler Abe

This is somewhat of a series I'm working on.  I have a collection of pretty bizarre frames, so I'm enjoying putting pictures of Lincoln in them with one word that describes him.  I did a "trendsetter" one earlier this month and now the latest version is Lincoln, the Hustler.  I was reminded to do this because he has a quote that I'll paraphrase, but it essentially says, "Good things may come to those who wait, but only the things left behind by those who hustle." Wiser words were never spoken.
Also, on a side note, I've been making popsicles all day.  I was working on some strawberry basil experiments and now there's a whole section in my freezer devoted to pineapple mint.  I have a huge list I want to start playing with, so it might be everyday thing you're going to have to keep hearing from me.  The strawberry basil creamsicles are to die for, actually, I'm going to go have one right now!

Day 85: Octobaby Abe

My next door neighbors had a daughter sometime in November last year.  I sewed her something, and took forever to get it to them, and now she wears 6-9 month clothes.  So, I made a promise to myself that I would finish her a little something to welcome her to the neighborhood in a day.  This way, she has no chance of outgrowing it before I have the chance to give it to her.  I made her a little octopus shirt, she has a bow on her head because of course that means she's a girl.

To make it an Abe, I added what I think is going to be my little Abe stamp.  It's just a top hat wearing an "A." Maybe I could add a L in there to, but I think it kinda relays the message that this is from the collection of the crazy girl who makes Abes, like everyday.

Day 84: Tiger Keyrack

Do you have any idea what the inside of my house looks like? Like Abraham Lincoln had a love child with everything possible. In the Abe form there are nutcrackers, pigs, pandas, pictures, paintings, he's flipping everywhere.  To be honest, I think I'm starting to freak people out.  So, I need to make different projects that are marked by signature "A" Abe.  This is one of the first ones! I found this browsing along on a few different blogs. People are taking toy animals, painting them fun colors and attaching them to make coat racks, key racks, all kinds of things.  My favorite part of this tiger is that keys will actually hang from his mouth, it's hilarious.

Day 83: Lincoln Lemonade, I Mean Vodka

Oh, I am so excited about this! One of my oldest, closest friends, Patty....or Pita, by her right and true name drew this awesome Abe stick figure for me! I absolutely love her stick figure drawings, and I'm convinced she should be making a career at it.
I am always infusing vodka with different fruits and flavors, but one that I always have on hand is lemon vodka.  I just call this Lincoln Lemonade, but watch yourself....this stuff is definitely not for child consumption.

Day 82: Fixed Abe Feeder

One of my friends, Garett made this awesome birdfeeder Abe with me last year, but in my move to Reno the head got detached from the hat.  I know this is kind of cheating, but whatever, I fixed this Abe and now he's hanging in full glory in the house with my other million and half Abes.

Day 81: Framed Time Abe

My boyfriend's Dad gets a subscription to Time, and sometime last year this issue came into my possession. I finally got around to framing it and it is glorious.

Day 80: Loteria Abe

Sometimes you have to make a Mexican Abe to hang out with your new pineapple mint. This mint's name is ridiculous, Larissa and I named it.  It's something like Juan Valdez de Pina Santa de menta del corazon de Flores.  And that's just the name of my plant. This loteria Abe says, El Corazon de todos los corazones.  I'm not even sure that's proper, but just go with it.

Day 79: Fierce Plate Abe

The final installation in my own plate series. Both my mother and sister have these same plates that I have to Abe out at some point.  The problem with these is that they take so long to sand.  It takes a few days to sand, a day to paint and prime and then see what kind of Abes I have laying around that I stick on top.
I watch way too much of America's Next Top Model.  I haven't watched it in years, but if seasons 1-10 are ever on repeat, my butt is on the couch watching them.  I learned how to wear heels, how to take an amazing photograph, do my makeup right, and how to be a decent human being all from this show. This is big news to a tomboy....sometimes I can be really bad at being a girl.  Anyway, there are two Jays on the show,  Ms. Jay and Mr. Jay and they both taught me how to be fierce and use the word appropriately.  Abe's head here is on Javier Bardem's body. Yes!

Day 78: Not Everything Comes Out Well Abe

I bought this box from the dollar bin at my local craft store and decoupaged and Abe picture on there.  I hate this project, but I'm posting it anyway just to prove the point that not all projects turn out the way you want, and that's okay.  I strive for perfection, but there are some bumps in the road, including this box that will probably hold bobby pins at the bottom of my makeup drawer. C'est la vie!

Day 71: Turkeyham Lincoln

Today is Larissa's 25th birthday! It's awesome to be living with her, I get to bug her all day long. She doesn't even complain that much, that's how good of friend she is. She made this Turkeyham Lincoln for me ages ago and it's taken awhile to get to painting all of it and finding someone, Garett, who wouldn't be afraid of painting the eyes. I'm not sure why painting human features freaks me out so much, but I just can't ever seem to get it right.
Today's Abe, since it is Larissa's birthday and all, is to finish Mr.Turkeyham Lincoln.  He's excited to join the collection.

Day 70: Trendsetter Abe

Oh, how I love thrift store shopping. I swooped up this sweet classic frame for a couple of dollars and used some typed letters I acquired from some dollar bin along the way.  Some would say that I'm a hoarder, but I just think I'm really good at collecting art supplies. I'm almost powerless to not buy things under a dollar. I always think, I know there's some project that will require these materials someday.  Hahaha, it kind of just sounds like I'm rationalizing my delusions.
I'm running out of complimentary words to describe my time-travel boyfriend Lincoln. Today's Abe is inspired by the harsh fact that I'm stretching for new ways to see Lincoln. Amongst other things, my boy is now a trendsetter, but I bet you already knew that. I'm not complaining about the amount of time I spend with Abraham, I'm just trying to keep it fresh and exciting.

Day 69: King Lincoln Abe

My Grandma gave me these decorative plates for Christmas, here's an example of one of them. While the sentiments these plates display aren't exactly my style, I'll find a way to transform them.

Now, here's the new improved version!

Day 65: Yours Truly, A. Lincoln

Last year in one of my college classes I did an extensive report on the sexuality of Abraham Lincoln. In sifting through a bunch of documents I found this picture where it's signed yours truly. I love that, so I used my favorite damask fabric to match.

The wall of projects is growing and growing! I can't wait to destroy that wall with Abes!

Day 64: More Sidewalk Chalk Quotes

It was a lovely day outside! I had leftover chalk from the original Abe quote so I decided to go outside and beautify my neighborhood. The quote this time was, "Good things may come to those who wait, but only the things left behind by those who hustle." I love when he gets all gangsta like that.

Day 63: A Little Abe Birdie Told Me

This little Abe bird told me my sister's birthday is coming up! I'm not sure if she'll be excited about all the Abe related things I've made for her or be offended if I didn't show up with some. It's a toss up.

Day 62: Handkerchief Abe

I bought this blank handkerchief for a dollar years ago and finally decided it was time to do something with it. I know nothing about embroidery, so be easy on me!
I just took a pencil and lightly wrote my quote in cursive. I followed the outline and in no time at all it was finished. I would love to learn how to do some decorative embellishments later on.
This quote says the awesome, "Whatever you are, be a good one."

Day 61: Abe Mat

Today was one of those days. You know the type, running around, errands, doctor's appointments, paperwork. No me gusta.
My friend Garett came over tonight for some late coffee/sangria/jeopardy time with me and my roommates. He suggested that i do the alternating stripes for on the mat.  He always has awesome ideas for my projects.
I wish it would stop snowing, I need to get a ridiculous amount of things done tomorrow.
