I blame it all on my stepfather. Whenever the family would go to Disneyland he would torture us with the threat of going on the “Abraham Lincoln Ride.” The “ride” was a little museum called The Hall of Presidents. Once inside you put on headphones to hear a brief history of the Civil War followed with animatronics Lincoln doing an epic performance of The Gettysburg Address. When you’re a kid at Disneyland, the last thing you want to hear is that you have to go on the Lincoln Ride when you’d much rather be on the Log Ride. I’ve grown up since then and somehow Lincoln has turned into a revered figure in my family’s mythology. Abe is honest, virtuous and frankly badass. So, it is with this humble origin that I begin my Lincoln obsession for the next year: I will make a piece of Abraham Lincoln media each day in 2011.
